People flooded around me after the performance, “How was your night?”
“10/10” is all I spit out.
Mission made possible by the likes of the Kaytranada.
To date, this is undoubtedly the top event I’ve captured in CO.
Let’s unpack.
Five minutes to the set time I saunter to will call for my ticket.
Ideally, I would have entered at 6:30. From what I understand, opening artists “Lou Phelps” and “Channel Tres” were well anticipated… but I had a camera battery to charge.
Outside the venue 3-4 small groups are waiting to enter.
With gratitude, I wonder why the bag check & security has been able to process my entry so quickly.
It is because virtually everyone is already inside.
Louis Kevin Celestin -aka Kaytranada- was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. As it is written, the Montreal-based DJ has been producing home records since he was 14 years old.
Decades later, he has risen to be respected as an experimental-house-mixer with a wide range of tasteful tunes. His album “Bubba” went hard, winning Grammy for Best Electronic Dance album of 2020, and again for best Dance Electronic Recording with “10%” the same year. Canadian Music Industry recognized 99.9% & Bubba through back-to-back Juno awards.
How did I come to know him?
Personally, I distinctly remember Minny shopping months after MOA received major renovations. As I entered the warm-lit bathroom space, the sound of Intimidated subtly serenaded a gloss application. I fell in love with the beat as it followed me into ~5 stores that day.
Few fans ‘round here have been following his magic since pre-EP Soundcloud days, though Red Rocks in 2021 seems to be a pivotal play in his Denver practice.
Onto tonight.
Mission is packed, lights lower. Eyes flicker to the stage, beaming as he enters sight.
The re-recipe is some Solange, a bit of Badu and just enough Justice to rest Rihanna’s Kiss It Better.
“Timeless” was published in June; the cross-cultural collaboration pressuring dnvtcn5
I’m tired of typing.
