We got a quick minute with Pablo of Chelsea Grin before his set at Vans Warped Tour to talk about the new album and more!

What was it that made this album a little longer than some of the other stuff dropped in the scene?
Pablo: There were actually even more that we could have added to the album, believe it or not! We mashed a couple songs together, one got cut and another we felt just wasn’t ready yet, so we’re gonna save it for the next record. We really wanted this to be a longer record though because we had done a 10 song full length album before and some 5 song EP’s, so we were just ready for a full strong album.

How are you reaching fans now that Facebook is such a pain in the dick?
Pablo: Yeah it’s pretty lame right? I think our generation is more on Instagram and Twitter anyways, I know I sure fuckin’ am! So for us Twitter and Instagram are where it’s at right now and ways that we are able to reach our fans.

Who is your tattoo artist?
Pablo: Ryan Johnson of Oni Tattoo in Salt Lake City, Utah. I’ve been seeing him for 2 years and the rest of the band for-fucking-ever! Ryan actually did the cover art for ‘My Damnation’ and ‘Ashes to Ashes.’ Some people don’t know this but Ashes, was actually all drawn with pencil and everything from Damnation, was water color. Ryan’s a talented fucking dude.

On a scale of 1 to dead babies, how brutal is this Fall tour going to be?
Pablo: Oh man, so many dead babies haha! I still can’t talk about it, but we are not the headliner, that’s all I can say. It’s gonna be sick though I promise!

What do you think of EP’s vs Albums?
Pablo: Well I think EP’s are a good way to weed out the songs you don’t want to use for your album. Our last EP helped us transition Jason in too for sure, so it was a nice thing for us not only for that, but to let our fans feel out what we were planning on doing for Ashes to Ashes.

Do you guys plan on touring Europe with this album?
Pablo: Oh definitely. We’re trying to get out there Spring 2015. Nothing is set in stone but we definitely want to get out there. Australia too man, Australia is dope.

What do you think of how passionate your fan base is out there?
Pablo: I think it’s sick man, every show is so insane! A lot of dedicated and appreciative fans out there because we don’t tour over there 3 or 4 times a year like we do here in the U.S, you know? So when we go over there we really feel the love man, it’s amazing.

Well thanks for hanging out with us Pablo! You can catch Chelsea Grin the rest of the Vans Warped Tour dates!
